Chimney Flashing Repairs
If your chimney is leaking, there are several possible causes. One of the causes of chimney leaks that we find most often is that a chimney’s flashing needs repairing. Flashing is what wraps around the base of the chimney where the chimney and the roof meet. When in good shape, flashing goes a long way to protect your chimney from leaks, which can spread to your walls and to your ceilings. However, time and weather can compromise the quality of weatherproofing your chimney’s flashing provides and cause it to pull away from the chimney’s base. This separation of flashing from the chimney or roof can also be a result of meddling animals or even simple house-settling.
How will I know my chimney flashing needs to be replaced?
You’ll want to install new chimney flashing if:
- You are installing new roof shingles
- Your flashing is missing
- Your flashing is rusted through
- Your flashing is falling out
- Your flashing is completely covered with roofing tar
If you think you have a problem with your flashing, you will want to call a chimney professional immediately to inspect it. This will prevent you from having to deal with a water-damaged home and the whopping repair bill that goes along with it.
If there is a flashing problem, we will work with a state-licensed roofer to make sure that it is done properly.
If we end up determining that your flashing is not what’s causing your chimney leak, we’re also available to repair masonry, install mortar crowns and chase pans, as well as custom chimney caps. Whatever the source of the leak, we can help you identify and address it in a timely manner.
