Hudson Chimney: Now a CSIA Certified Master Sweep!

Hudson Chimney is proud to announce that Mark Hudson, owner and operator, is now a CSIA Master Sweep! This is a designation that is awarded to CSIA certified professionals who have gone above and beyond what’s required to maintain CSIA membership. They make efforts to stay ahead of others in the chimney and venting industry. How? By educating the public and putting consumer safety above all else.

In addition to these certifications, the chimney sweep must complete many advanced courses to further their education and training in the chimney industry.

The Importance of Choosing the Best

When you are searching for a chimney professional, you shouldn’t look further than the best. The CSIA Master Sweep is an individual who puts consumer safety above all else. There are some chimney professionals in the industry who may go their entire careers without becoming a certified chimney sweep or master sweep. They may boast of cheaper prices, but their service reflects their lack of training and expertise. Master Sweeps, in order to maintain CSIA certification for ten consecutive years, have chosen to continue their training and commitment to chimney safety year after year.

CSIA Membership Requirements

  • Code of Ethics
CSIA certified sweeps must adhere to a stringent code of ethics. This is designed to protect homeowners from scams in the service industry. What if a sweep is found in violation of this code? Their certification may be revoked, despite fees paid and training completed.
  • Continued Education
Every three years a CSIA certified sweep is subject to re-certification by either continuing education credits or by examination. This is a vital component of maintaining a high standard for CSIA memberships. Why? The chimney industry changes frequently as technologies change.

Does it Cost More to Hire a Professional?

It will cost more to hire a professional to maintain your chimney than it will to hire an amateur. A chimney sweep that lacks the education, experience, and commitment that it takes to maintain CSIA standards is not worth your money! Additionally, it may cost you more in the long run. Hudson Chimney is committed to chimney safety and your safety. We have been serving Jacksonville, FL and surrounding areas since 1979. That’s almost 40 years of service to this community!

Since 1979, we have continuously gone above and beyond our competition. We stay abreast of all the latest tools, trends, and major/minor code changes in the chimney industry. This is done by attending every class and conference available. It has paid off. Now our loyal customers in Northeastern Florida can benefit from our commitment to chimney safety even more, as all of our work is backed by the Master Sweep CSIA credential.

Why Professional Certifications are Important

Certification Importance Photo - Jacksonville FL - Hudson Chimney Inc.Your chimney is the ventilation for your fireplace. It allows the harmful byproducts of your fire to exit the home and it protects your family from health hazards caused from carbon monoxide poisoning, particle inhalation, and more. Just as you would choose a physician over your next door neighbor, you should choose a certified professional over the neighborhood handyman.

The Industry Standard

  • The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) has been the authority on chimney safety since the 1980s, and only the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep® (CCS) adheres to CSIA’s high standard of excellence.
  • The CSIA Code of Ethics designed to protect customers from scams.
  • Professional training and education aimed at preventing accidental fires, carbon monoxide intrusion, and other chimney related hazards.
  • Re-certification every three years by examination or continued education credits to allow chimney sweeps to adjust to the changing industry and technologies.
  • Networking with related professionals at the local and national level.
  • Nationally recognized as the industry’s best.

When your homeowners insurance requires an inspection due to a claim or premium adjustment they look for the CSIA signature. When your realtor requires an inspection for a sale or a mortgage broker requires an appraisal, they will look for the CSIA signature. It is easier to find a CSIA certified chimney sweep from the start. This is the industry standard that related fields look to.

The Hudson Chimney Standard

At Hudson Chimney we do not stop at a CSIA certification. We maintain Independent Safety Commission (ISC) and Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician (CDET) certifications as well as membership of the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) and Georgia Chimney Sweep Guild (GCSW). This continued education helps us to offer the best service for the Jacksonville, Florida area for over thirty years. We also pride ourselves on educating the public about chimney and dryer vent safety. Mark Hudson, owner and operator of Hudson Chimney is also the founder and former president of the FGPCS (Florida Guild of Professional Chimney Sweeps) because at Hudson we know that no amount of training, education, and standards is too much when customer safety and comfort is concerned.

We think it’s important to join not just national, but local organizations because part of CSIA membership is contributing to community education about fire safety. That’s why we make it a priority to maintain these carefully chosen memberships and certifications. Hudson Chimney strives to be the best in northeast Florida, so we maintain membership among the best in the industry.
